Kujah Sabeni

Musical Director

Born in New Caledonia to an Indonesian family, Kujah grew up surrounded by the island’s rich cultural blend, where Pacific influences—especially Tahitian music—remain beloved to this day. While studying jazz as a bass player in France in the 1980s, he had the opportunity to join the professional group FETIA TAHITI, immersing himself in Tahitian rhythms under the guidance of his Tahitian Music Masters who welcomed him and shared their knowledge.

Kujah performed with renowned groups like FETIA TAHITI, TAMURE TAHITI, and OVEHI TAHITI, touring Europe, Africa, and appearing on Television. In working to achieve his goal of bringing rhythm to life, Kujah now composes music, collaborates with various artists, and contributes to show productions. In Tahitian, Aratai represents the art of creating rhythms in harmony with dance and choreography—a philosophy that continues to inspire his work.
