Ranelyn Luceña-Mina
Community Care
Born and raised in London, Ranelyn is a British-Filipino, whose cultural heritage continues to shape both her identity and artistic voice. From a young age, she was immersed in arts and dance communities through training at Sylvia Young Theatre School, as well as Filipino home-grown groups including Europhil, Sampaguita, and Rising Stars. These spaces instilled in her the importance of community, respect, discipline, and belonging, values that continue to shape the way she leads, teaches, and connects with others today. Rooted in Filipino values of respect, family, and community, she later found her ‘ohana through Hula, a space grounded in cultural pride and shared experience that became the foundation of her journey as a dancer, leader, and teacher.
Since 2019, Ranelyn has trained under the direction of Krysten Resnick at the London School of Hula and 'Ori. Her training has strengthened not only her technical ability, but also her understanding of lineage, cultural stewardship, and the responsibility of carrying forward knowledge entrusted to her by teachers, kūpuna, and elders who came before her.
In June 2023, she was part of the 2nd Place Hula ‘Auana team competition in Vienna and featured in the short film 'Ola I Ka Wai/Water is Life: Dancing the Ahupua'a, showcased within the exhibition at the Pitt Rivers Museum. Alongside her leadership as an Alaka‘i, she regularly performs and coordinates for corporate events, weddings, cultural showcases, and school and community celebrations.
Grounded in lineage and her own lived experience, Ranelyn strives to create spaces where others feel seen, supported, and connected, much like she did when she first joined the ‘ohana in 2019. Through performing, mentoring, and teaching, she has come to understand that Hula is not simply something she does, but how she serves and uplifts those around her.
Whether on stage, in class, or in everyday life, Ranelyn values presence, compassion, and genuine human connection. Her goal is to create experiences that are not only visually captivating, but also heartfelt, culturally meaningful, and rooted in respect for the generations who continue to guide the way forward.
