Our Mission & Story

Since 2011, the London School of Hula & 'Ori (LSHO) has been dedicated to preserving and sharing the cultural traditions of Hawaiian Hula and Tahitian 'Ori Tahiti. We believe that dance is more than movement; it’s storytelling, connection, and spirit.

At LSHO, we welcome everyone, all ages, bodies, abilities and backgrounds, into our 'ohana (family), offering a safe and nurturing space to learn, grow, and belong.

Through technique, history, and community, we guide dancers to not just move, but to understand and honour the stories behind their steps. Our mission is to keep these traditions alive as living practices of culture, creativity, and shared belonging.

Why Choose Us

  • Inclusive Community: All ages, body types, genders, and fitness levels are welcome. At LSHO, you belong.

  • Cultural Depth: Our teaching goes beyond movement — we explore the history, music, language, and storytelling behind every dance.

  • Flexible Learning: Take classes in our London studio or join live via Zoom — whatever works for your lifestyle.

  • Path for Growth: Whether you're just starting or ready to perform, we support your journey with courses, memberships, and performance opportunities.

Explore Our Styles

At LSHO, we celebrate the diversity and beauty of Polynesian dance through three distinct traditions: Hawaiian Hula, Tahitian 'Ori Tahiti, and Siva Samoa. Each style brings its own energy, history, and expression — and we teach all of them with respect, cultural understanding, and heart.

  • Hawaiian Hula

    • Hula 'Auana: A flowing, lyrical style accompanied by melodic instruments.

    • Hula Kahiko: The traditional, powerful Hula rooted in chants, history, and spiritual storytelling.

  • 'Ori Tahiti (Tahitian Dance)

    • 'Ōte'a: High-energy drum-led dance with dynamic hip rotations.

    • 'Aparima: Slower, expressive dance that tells stories through graceful hand movements and gestures.

  • Siva Samoa

    • Siva Samoa: A graceful and subtle Samoan dance that emphasises delicate hand and arm movements, storytelling, and cultural poise. This style offers a lower-impact, elegant form of movement rooted in Samoan tradition.
