We suggest that anyone new to the styles do the Beginners Foundation Courses.
We aim to run them at least every other month, but if the next one isn’t starting soon, jump into either of our Basics or Combos classes - Hula or ‘Ori Tahiti to get to know our community and the instructors and to start getting a feel for the movements.
The Intro Pass, which gives you access to any four classes over two weeks is great way to try things out.

We'd recommend starting with our Beginners Foundation Course if you're new to the styles of Hawaiian Hula and Tahitian ‘Ori. It's a great way of learning the fundamentals and meeting other dancers at the same stage as you. You could also start by trying the Intro Pass, allowing access to four classes across two weeks.

Both classes are a great way to develop your confidence in hula and/or 'ori. In Saturday Basics we concentrate on one or two steps, with a specific focus on technique, and in Tuesday Combos we put these steps into a short combo. You can take one or the other or both!
These classes are a great follow-on from the Beginner's Foundation Course and will help you to pick up choreographies taught in our advanced Studies classes on Mondays / Wednesdays.
They are also a great place to drop-in if you’re waiting for the next Beginners’ Foundation Course to start.

Hula and ‘Ori are great for all bodies, fitness levels, ages, genders, and abilities. We pride ourselves on making our classes accessible to everyone and will endeavor to help each dancer find the pace that is right for them. We are committed to creating a beautifully diverse community of dancers.
Please do not hesitate to join us and our instructors will always help find ways for each of our dancers to participate in ways that are both challenging and rewarding.

LSHO offers sliding scale rates to ensure that anyone who would like to attend classes is able to. We have many members who utilise this option. Check out our Kokua page for discounted rates. Please don’t ever let finances stop you from dancing!

Let the instructors know any specific goals and they will always do their best to help you achieve them. If you would like to participate in shows, performances, or special activities, you should be consistent with your practice.
There are many ways to be involved, not just dancing. We often need help backstage, or with making costumes.

Always bring a bottle of water and a notepad!
If you have a pareo, great! Please bring that and we will teach you how to tie it properly in the class/course.
If you don’t have one, you may come in anything that is comfortable to move (and sweat!) in.
Pareos (‘Ori) and Pa’u (Hula) are available for purchase via our website in the Shop section.

As you enter the studio, there are storage racks for shoes, coats and bags. Please remove your shoes on the black mat before entering. There is a kitchen where you can fill up your water bottle and store drinks and snacks in the fridge, and a bathroom for changing. There is also a community garden at the front of the studio which all dancers are welcome to contribute to.
