Keiki (Kids’) Class

Hawaiian Hula and Tahitian ‘Ori classes for children in the heart of London

At London School of Hula & ‘Ori (LSHO), our Keiki classes are a vibrant celebration of storytelling, rhythm, and community.

Each class helps children build coordination, confidence, and cultural awareness in a warm, supportive environment. Through music and movement, they learn to express themselves, connect with others, relate to nature, and embrace the spirit of aloha— kindness, love, and respect.

What to Expect in a Keiki Class

Our children’s dance classes are designed to nurture both skill and spirit.

Before Class

  • Arrive a few minutes early to meet the teacher and settle in.

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement (we dance barefoot).

  • Bring a water bottle and a smile!

During Class

  • Gentle warm-ups and rhythm games to get moving and focused.

  • Learn basic steps, gestures, and hand movements.

  • Discover the stories behind the dances — each step has meaning!

  • Hear and use simple Hawaiian and Tahitian words through song and play.

  • Build teamwork and confidence in a fun, supportive space.

After Class

  • Cool down and reflect together.

  • Teachers are always happy to chat after class about progress or next steps.

Watch the video to help you understand the Hawaiian alphabet!

The Hakalama is used to spell Hawaiian words by breaking them down into syllables, for example:

A-lo-ha

In Hawai‘i, music, dance, and stories have been passed down from kūpuna (elders) to keiki (you kids!) through talking.

Think of the start of Moana, when her grandmother tells the children the story of Maui and Te Fiti!

This playlist of videos by ‘Ōiwi TV can teach you about some of Hawai‘i’s stories and legends.

For our younger keiki, learn some more Hawaiian words through the videos below!

At LSHO, every child becomes part of our extended family, learning not only dance steps but also values of respect, gratitude, and connection.

We can’t wait to welcome your Keiki to our studio and share the joy of Polynesian dance with them.

Pssst! Grownups! We have adult classes too!
